Housing shortage in twin cities
Rawalpindi
Unending inflow of people from other parts of the country to twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad has multiplied the problem of shortage of residential units with local organisations urging the concerned authorities to give attention towards fast increasing homeless people in the city.
Sobia Rashid, a researcher, said no official figure is currently available to get to know the exact number of homeless people in Rawalpindi but ongoing population census would solve the problem and provide the latest data in this respect.
“It is a hard fact that a large number of people are still arriving in the city from other parts of the country in search of the employment opportunities due to which shortage of the housing units has become one of the serious problems that need to be addressed immediately,” she said.
