Faiz’s role in literature highlighted
LAHORE
Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) on Monday organised an event on the university premises to remember Faiz Ahmed Faiz.
Speaking on the occasion, LCWU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Rukhsana Kausar said Faiz Ahmed Faiz was a prominent name among Urdu poets who maintained the need to promote peace and harmony and believed that writers from the Sub-continent must play role in this regard. She said Faiz’s work was considered the backbone of development of literature, arts and poetry and he was one of the most beloved poets in the country. LCWU Urdu department Chairperson Humera Irshad said we could acknowledge, but could not truly understand the suffering of Faiz Ahmed Faiz as personified in his poetry. “His era marked the era of sensibility. He always said his pain was chartered for the cause of humanity,” she added.
Urdu Literary Society In charge Dr Azra said Faiz faced numerous challenges in his life but kept on feeling for others in the terms of Dard Ka Rishta (relation of empathy).” Student Affairs Director Bushra Nadeem said Faiz also wrote poetry in Punjabi language. The event organised by the LCWU’s Urdu Literary Society was attended by faculty members and students who also presented Faiz’s poetry on the occasion.
PU sackings: A meeting between Punjab University Vice Chancellor and Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) Chairperson on Monday discussed the matter of removal of senior contract professors of the university.
According to a press release, VC Prof Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir requested Chairperson Dr Mohammad Nizamuddin to form a three-member committee under his convenorship along with two VCs to examine the matter. It was decided the orders of removal of senior contract professors will be held in abeyance till the final recommendations of the committee. Regarding appointment of new director at PU Institute of Geology, PU will hold an internal meeting with concerned to resolve the matter. The meeting was held on the direction of Punjab Minister for Higher Education Syed Raza Ali Gillani.
awareness: With the aim to urge the citizens to avoid littering on the roads, Albayrak Waste Management carried out its market awareness activity in UC-203, Gulberg, here on Monday. UC Chairman Zahid Ali Bukhari, local councillor Sajid Bhatti, Aman Committee Chairman Amanat Bhatti and social worker Sarfaraz Khan along with Albayrak team handed over awareness brochures and free waste bags to the local shopkeepers.
