Nigar Ahmad passed away on February 24, surrounded by family and friends.

She was a radical activist and leader who worked tirelessly for nearly 20 years for the political, social, and economic empowerment of Pakistani women. 

She taught economics for 16 years at Quaid-e-Azam University, and during the time became involved in the fight against the antiwomen policies of Zia-ul-Haq’s government as part of the Women’s Action Forum. 

In 1986, she co-founded Aurat Foundation, a civil society organisation that works for women’s empowerment. In 2005, she was one of 1,000 women nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. Her Namaz-e-Janaza will proceed from 163 Street 4, Cavalry Ground to Khalid Masjid at 4.15pm on February 25.

Pakistan Peoples Party leader from Lahore Mian Khalid Saeed passed away on Friday after cardiac arrest.

Khalid Saeed was a staunch party activist who also contested provincial and national assembly polls on PPP ticket in different eras. Hailing from Ichhra, he also remained active in different social activities.

He will be laid to rest on Saturday (today) in a local graveyard.
