Karachi
In a meeting at the Bilawal House on Friday, Pakistan People’s Party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari directed senior officials of the Sindh government to formulate a comprehensive security plan for academic institutions of the province, particularly Karachi, at the earliest.
According to spokesman Senator Farhatullah Babar, the former president called for foolproof security measures to avert any potential militant attacks on educational institutes. He urged government representatives to involve the police and Sindh Rangers in consultations with private and public schools’ managements to draw up a detailed security plan.
Zardari also spoke in detail over the pressing need to strengthen the police force and said the operational requirements – equipment, vehicles and materials – must be fulfilled and welfare of personnel should be awarded top priority.
“The police is the first line of defence against militancy and their commitment in the face of daunting odds is commendable. The law enforcers who have laid down their lives or sustained injuries in the fight against terror are true national icons who deserve every possible honour,” said Zardari.
He directed Sindh Finance Minister Murad Ali Shah to work on a thorough evaluation of the force’s requirements, especially its special service unit.
The meeting was attended by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, MNA Faryal Talpur, Sherry Rehman, Sindh IGP Ghulam Hyder Jamali and other senior government officials.
Solid waste management projects
Presiding over another meeting at the Bilawal House, Zardari called for the early completion of solid waste management projects in Karachi, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad and Sukkur.
