SALU to establish campus in Ghotki soon
SUKKUR: The premises of the old block of the Government Boys Degree College of Ghotki have been placed at the disposal of the Shah Abdul Latif University of Khairpur to convert it into a campus of the university.
A ceremony to mark the occasion was held in Ghotki. A Member of the National Assembly, Sardar Ali Muhammad Khan Mahar, who was the guest of honour, along with Prof. Dr. Parveen Shah, the vice chancellor of the university, unveiled the plaque at the building.
Addressing the ceremony, Sardar Ali Muhammad Khan Mahar said his political approach was people-centred because the people are the agents of change and could play a pivotal role in the promotion of democracy and nation building.
Sardar Ali Muhammad Khan Mahar said, “On account of my services and love for the people, I got a very high number of votes in my constituency.” He said this land is the land of Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, Lal Shahbaz Qalandar and Sachal Sarmast.
Sardar Mahar appreciated the endeavors of Prof. Dr. Parveen Shah for the establishment of the Ghotki Campus and also commended the efforts of the Higher Education Commission in this regard. Dr. Parveen Shah said education was the best weapon against extremism, and it could also provide social justice and equity.
The vice chancellor said she was highly thankful to Sardar Ali Muhammad Khan Mahar who even postponed his visit to Dubai in order to be able to attend the ceremony. She said that the MNA’s gesture showed that he had a very high priority for education.
Dr. Parveen Shah said that the HEC had earmarked Rs10 million as seed money and operational cost for this campus. She said that the university would soon establish a campus in Shahdadkot too. Syed Aijaz Ali Shah, deputy commissioner of Ghotki, said that it was a historic event for Ghotki. He assured the vice chancellor of his maximum support to the campus. Syed Asghar Ali Shah, chairman of the municipal committee of Ghotki, said that a long-standing demand of the people of Ghotki had been met. He thanked Sardar Ali Muhammad Khan Mahar for his support. Syed Asghar Ali Shah said he was optimistic this campus would be upgraded to a full-fledged university soon.
