Seminar calls for dispensation of justice
Int’l Human Rights Day
PESHAWAR: Speakers at a seminar on Saturday underlined the need for making strenuous efforts to ensure dispensation of timely justice and provision of equal opportunities for all.
The Organisation for Social and Economic Development in collaboration with Zareef Khan Foundation and United for Human Rights had organised the seminar at the University of Peshawar to mark the International Human Rights Day.
The main theme of the event was to create awareness among the people about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that was passed by the United Nations on 10 December 1948.Akhtar Ali Khan, principal of Frontier Law College and the former vice-chairman of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council, was the chief guest on the occasion.
He shed light on the fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution of Pakistan.
The other speakers included Major (r) Jehangir Zaman of the Zareef Khan Foundation and Chief Executive Officer of Organisation for Social and Economic Development Azmat Akbar. Hamza Jehangir, a human rights activist, said he believed that peace could be achieved if public thoughts were channelised.He said the use of force and intolerance should be discouraged.Other speakers said that time had come to fight prejudice, discrimination and hatred.
