IGP awards police officials

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police (IGP) Nasir Khan Durrani on Monday awarded the Peshawar Police officials who had helped avert a terrorist activity in Christian Colony a few weeks ago and a junior clerk who topped master’s exam in library science.

A handout said that Station House Officer Police Station Mathra Ijaz Khan had received information that a group of militants wearing suicide vests had entered Christian Colony and there was an exchange of fire between the militants and security guards posted there.

SHO Ijaz Khan along with constable Sajjad Khan of Rapid Response Force (RRF) rushed to the spot and engaged the terrorists with firing. The militants were armed with Kalashnikovs and hand grenades.

During exchange of fire for two and a half hours, one terrorist was hit by police fire and he blew himself up. There were three blasts. Four bodies of terrorist were found. The IGP said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police cops were matchless in terms of honesty and bravery and the force having such qualities could not be defeated.

The IGP awarded SHO Ijaz Khan and constable Sajjad Khan with cash prizes and commendation certificates. The IGP also awarded prize to the Police Department clerk Khushi Muhammad, who secured overall first position in the subject of Library and Information Sciences from University of Peshawar. The governor had awarded him with gold medal and cash reward. The IGP said that due to outstanding performance, junior clerk Khushi Muhammad earned a good name for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, for which he was awarded.
