The Sindh government is all set to launch and develop an Education City in Sindh that would cost an amount of $800 million. This ambitious project is located on the Link Road connecting National Highway with Super Highway. Around 70 education institutions will be built in the proposed city. The efforts of the Sindh government to promote education in the province are appreciated. It would be highly desirable if this quality is created in the existing institutions of the province too.
The requirements of the existing education institutions in Sindh include the provisioning of basic facilities like drinking water, boundary walls, play grounds, making trained teachers available in all the schools, ensuring transparency in the hiring of government teachers, availability of updated text books, ending culture of copying and paper leaks doing away with ghost schools and raising the salaries of the teaching staff to an appropriate level. Efforts should also be made to raise the standard of universities in the province. The amount to be spent on the establishment of the education city is a huge amount and should be spent judiciously. Concerted efforts should be made to save this amount from wide spread corruption.
