Politics of agitation to harm democracy, says governor

Punjab Governor Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana has said that protest is a democratic right of people but the politics of agitation and resistance has never benefitted any democracy in the world.

The governor who is also chancellor of the Punjab University said this while addressing a laptop distribution ceremony under the Prime Minister Laptop Scheme at the varsity’s Faisal Auditorium here on Thursday. PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran, Executive Director HEC Prof Dr Arshad Ali, senior faculty and administrative officials of PU and HEC and a large number of students were present on the occasion.

Rafique Rajwana said the politics of agitation would damage democracy adding those who wanted to be in government should adopt democratic way and strengthen parliament after winning elections. He said we should not level baseless allegations of corruption against each other to malign other’s repute. Rather we should focus on the success of Zarb-e-Azb, he added. The governor said China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would prove a game-changer for the progress of Pakistan and the young people must play their role for the development of the country. He said Pakistan was full of talented people and our journey to progress must not stop. He said the government had launched several schemes to empower youth and utilise their energies. 

Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran said that today’s young people were lucky that they had opened their eyes in the age of internet. He said the invention of internet had made access to information and correspondence very easy. He said the invention of printing machines and publication of books had also played important role in promotion of education. However, the world was now accessible only on one click because of internet, he added. He lauded the efforts of the PML-N government for educational development of the country. 

Dr Arshad Ali said because of prime minister’s laptop scheme, the efficiency of students had improved manifold since previously they were lacking such digital resources and had limited access to the internet. He said 500,000 laptops were being distributed among the talented students on merit during the five-year tenure of the incumbent government. Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana distributed laptops among PhD scholars. Later, PU VC Dr Mujahid Kamran presented souvenir to the governor.
