Security beefed up in Peshawar, nearby districts

Three Levies men among six injured in Bajaur blast

PESHAWAR: Security has been beefed up in the provincial capital and a number of other nearby districts in the wake of threats to sensitive establishments and other places in the province. A meeting to review security of all sensitive and important establishments was held on Tuesday. Inspector General of Police Nasir Khan Durrani presided over.

 The capital city police officer, senior superintendent of police operations Peshawar, all SPs from Peshawar Range, Regional Police Officer of Mardan and DPOs of Charsadda, Mardan, Swabi and Nowshera attended the meeting. Those in the meeting took stock of the security situation.

The provincial police chief directed the field officers to conduct a detailed security survey of all the vulnerable places in their areas and ensure proper deployment as well as monitor the force in a professional manner.

The IGP urged the officers to cater to the security needs of courts and judicial complexes. The additional IGP of operations was directed to expedite installation of biometric access system and CCTV cameras in the courts.

The officers were directed to beef up security of police establishments, hospitals, bus stands. They were also asked to conduct mock exercises and show no leniency to the violators of security protocols.

The IGP directed the officers to hold meetings with the intelligence agencies and conduct intelligence-based operations in their areas.Our correspondent in Khar adds: Six persons, including three Levies personnel, sustained injuries in a remote controlled bomb blast at Banda area in Salarzai tehsil in Bajaur Agency on Tuesday, official sources said.

They said that six persons, three of them Levies men, were injured when a remote controlled bomb exploded in Banda area. The injured were identified as Rahimullah, Rasul Khan, Salahuddin, Mujeeb Gul, Imran and Baley were taken to the Agency Headquarters Hospital in Khar where their condition was stated to be stable.

Political Agent Amir Khattak visited the hospital and inquired after the health of the injured. The officials of the political administration registered the case and started investigation.
