Early Childhood Education classrooms in 1,000 schools

LAHORE

The Directorate of Staff Development has planned to establish Early Childhood Education (ECE) classrooms in 1,000 schools in the province by next year under an approved PC-1 and government intends to make ECE system effective through supporting partners such as World Bank which intends to develop ECE classrooms in the province.

According to a handout issued here on Friday, UNICEF intends to support in provision of 10,000 ECE kits for public schools, SED Special Secretary Imran Sikandar Baloch said while speaking at one day consultation on Early Childhood Education (ECE) for classrooms of public schools in Punjab organised by Directorate of Staff Development in collaboration with PMIU.

He said about 40,000 teachers would be recruited only for primary schools. Investment in ECE is a commitment to the bright and prosperous future and plays a pivotal role in the enrolment and retention of the students and the ECE kit is being revised to improve ECE classrooms for better learning of kids, Programme Director DSD Saeed Ramzan said.

Focal person on ECE Fiza Ali said the kit contained materials to help teachers in creating a safe learning environment for children. Each item is carefully selected to help in developing skills for thinking, speaking, feeling and interacting with others. Contents include puzzles and games; counting circle and boxes to stack and sort; board books and puppets for storytelling and art supplies.

UVAS: Prof Dr Cheng He from the College of Veterinary Medicine, China Agriculture University, Beijing, visited the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), Lahore on Friday and called on Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha. 

According to a press release issued here on Friday, the Chinese professor desired collaboration with the UVAS in areas of mutual interest and later at a meeting with the UVAS professors and researchers discussed the possible areas of collaboration, including disease diagnosis, vaccine production, joint research projects in poultry and livestock, exchange of teachers and students, etc.

Earlier, the vice-chancellor briefed the Chinese professor on UVAS campuses, labs, academic and research projects and national and international collaborations. He said the university was working very closely with the livestock and poultry industry and playing an active role in solution to industry problems.

The Chinese professor briefed the UVAS professors and researchers on research priority areas of the China Agriculture University Beijing and various opportunities of collaboration, research funding and postgraduate studies for Pakistani researchers and students.

Dean Faculty of Veterinary Science Prof Dr Masood Rabbani, Prof Dr Tahir Yaqub from the UVAS and Dr Khalid Naeem Khawaja from National Agriculture Research Centre (NARC) were also present on the occasion.
