‘Hospitals to be provided with latest equipment’

Primary and Secondary Healthcare Secretary Ali Jan Khan has said that the revamp of DHQ and THQ hospitals and providing quality health facilities at the district and tehsil level hospitals is one of the top priorities of the Punjab government. 

The healthcare establishments will be provided with latest medical equipment, human resources, including health specialists, water filtration plants and other required services to meet the challenges of quality health services. Restoration and renovation of hospital buildings would also be done. 

This was stated by the secretary while addressing the opening session of a three-day orientation workshop organised by PHC on Thursday.

Over 25 participants from eight district and Tehsil hospitals, including surgeons, medical superintendents and medical officers, are attending the workshop aimed at giving orientation to senior staff of the hospitals on effective implementation of Minimum Service Delivery Standards (MSDS) prepared by PHC and evaluating the hospitals for their needs.

Dr Ajmal Khan, chief operating officer, said the PHC would continue its coordination with the health department in revamping selected 40 district and Tehsil hospitals by providing information and orientation to the staff on MSDS to achieve the targets set by Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department. 

Dental health units: Adviser to Chief Minister on Health Khawaja Salman Rafiq has said that dental health units are being established in all the DHQ hospitals during the current financial year.

He said that revamp of all DHQ hospitals was being carried out at a cost of Rs 5.20 billion this year.

He stated this while addressing an awareness seminar regarding dental and oral health, arranged by a toothpaste manufacturing company at Dental Outdoor Department in Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (SGRH), according to a handout issued here on Thursday. 

SGRH Medical Superintendent Dr Nauman Matloob, MPA Dr Farzana Nazir, Prof Mumtaz and other senior doctors, nurses were also present.

Dr Nauman Matloob said that dental department of SGRH was being upgraded and new machines would be installed very soon.

Kh Salman Rafiq said oral and dental diseases produce so many health hazards but it was commonly observed that people did not care about dental health. He said that healthy body needed healthy teeth. He said that government was focusing on prevention programme to control diseases through which expenditures occurring on curative part could be reduced. He lauded the efforts of private company for creating dental health awareness among the masses and said that corporate sector should come forward to fulfill their social responsibly for creating a healthy society.

PMDC: Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) President Prof Dr Shabbir Lehri has been elected member at large for Management Committee of IAMRA in the 12th International Conference of International Association of Medical Regulatory Authorities (IAMRA), started on September 20 and will end on Sept 23, in Melbourne, Australia.

He has been elected for a term of four years, from 2016 to 2020.

According to a press release issued here on Thursday, the  PM&DC president is the only candidate elected from Asia, which is an honour for Pakistan and the entire region. Dr Joanna Flynn from Australia, Ms Susan Goldsmith from the UK, Dr Tebogo Kgosiesile from South Africa, Dr Heidi Oetter from Canada and Dr Carlos Vital from Brazil have also been elected in the election.

The meeting was attended by many delegates mostly heads of regulatory authorities from all over the world.

Federal Minister Saira Afzal Tarar has congratulated the  PM&DC president on becoming part of such an esteemed organisation.

Prof Dr Shbair Lehri also presented a resolution for faculty exchange programme of PM&DC which was accepted unanimously by IAMRA members. By virtue of acceptance of this resolution, a great improvement in medical and dental education in the country is expected. IAMRA currently has 103 members from 46 countries. The IAMRA Management Committee has eight members at large.
