LAHORE

Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Senator Sirajul Haq demanded the Pakistan government approach the world community especially the UN and OIC for stopping the execution of JI Bangladesh leader Mir Qasim Ali.

In a statement on Thursday, he condemned the BD Supreme Court verdict dismissing Mir Qasim Ali’s appeal against the death sentence announced by the controversial war crimes tribunal trying the Islamist leaders for resisting the secession of Bangladesh from Pakistan.

Sirajul Haq appreciated the letter from 35 EU Parliament members to BD Premier Hasina Wajid for stopping the execution of the JI leader. He said the European countries were raising their voice against the oppression going on in Bangladesh but the rulers in Pakistan were silent on it.

Sirajul Haq said that JI leaders in Bangladesh were being executed for their love for Pakistan as Hasina Wajid was putting the Islamists to death at the behest of New Delhi but, unfortunately, Islamabad did not have the courage to raise voice against that.

He said the JI had repeatedly pointed out that the trials of JI leaders for so-called war crimes going on in Bangladesh were violation of the tripartite agreement between Pakistan, India and Bangladesh signed in 1974, therefore, the issue should be taken up with the UN and the International Court of Justice.

Baloch: Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Liaqat Baloch has called for raise in education budget, putting it on a par with the defence budget.

He also urged using Urdu as the medium of instructions and holding competitive examinations in Urdu in accordance with the Supreme Court judgment.

Inaugurating a private Islamic school here Thursday, he said national development was impossible without advancement in education and technology. He said that the education must be purpose-oriented and the entire country should have a uniform education system.

Liaqat Baloch said the government and private educational institutions were collectively responsible for the protection and growth of the younger generation. He said that the IMF, the World Bank and US Aid were interfering in Pakistan's education system because of the foreign aid/loans and pushing the younger generation away from Islamic culture and values.

This can be stopped by taking the path of self-reliance and introducing uniform education system, he added.
