Man electrocuted during anti-encroachment drive in Haripur

HARIPUR: A worker of a sanitary shop was electrocuted while his colleague sustained burn injuries when they accidentally touched a high tension electricity line in a bid to remove an iron shed during an anti-encroachment campaign.
On the directives of provincial government, Additional Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Irshad and Town Municipal Officer Sarfaraz Khan supervised the anti-encroachment drive in Mochi Bazaar, Loharan Bazaar and Sain Saheli Road.
During the anti-encroachment operation in the Bazaar Loharan, they asked the owner of a sanitary shop to remove the iron shed. The owner, according to police and eyewitnesses, asked his two employees to remove it.
While trying to remove the shed, they accidentally touched the 11,000 KV high voltage power lines. Resultantly, one of the employees identified as Raees, died on the spot while one Ishtiaq sustained burn injuries.
The injured was taken to the Women and Children Hospital from where he was referred to the Ayub Medical Complex, Abbottabad. Meanwhile, the local traders asked the government to compensate the family of the poor man.
