Karachi

Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan and Corps Commander Karachi Lt-General Naveed Mukhtar met on Tuesday and expressed the resolve to show no tolerance for any conspiracy to incite people to act against the integrity of Pakistan.

During the meeting that took place at the Governor House, they discussed the law and order situation in the province, including the ongoing targeted operation and security measures to be taken ahead of Eidul Azha.  The meeting came a day after MQM protesters ransacked a media house, set several vehicles on fire and resorted to aerial firing in Karachi’s security red zone after their party leader delivered a provocative speech by telephone from London.

Both the top authority and military commander of the province expressed the resolve that elements which had conspired against the security and solidarity of Pakistan would be brought to justice.

They were of the opinion that peace in Karachi would be maintained at every cost, while the targeted operation would continue till the elimination of the last of the terrorists.

The governor stated that peace in Karachi meant peace in the entire country. He added that stern action would be taken against people who would create a law and order situation in the city.  Due action would be taken against miscreants who took the law into their hands and were involved in incidents of violence and ransacking, he said.

Khan said that personnel of the Sindh Rangers and that of other law-enforcement agencies had rendered a number of sacrifices and those sacrifices would not be allowed to go in vain. All required steps would be taken for the security of the people of the province.

The corps commander also visited the Rangers headquarters, where he was given a briefing on the operation in Karachi.

He expressed serious concerns over the recent provocative speeches delivered in Karachi during which anti-Pakistan statements were made on a blatant basis. He reviewed the progress so far made in arresting elements involved in such incidents. Lt-General Mukhtar said the operation should continue against elements which had resorted to inciting people to violence and caused damage to property.

He paid tribute to the people of Karachi for rejecting the call for protest made by elements conspiring against the solidarity of the country. He said the people by rejecting the call of such anti-state elements had ensured peace in the city.

The corps commander reiterated the stance that all concerned elements, including the Pakistan Army, Rangers and people of Karachi, had complete unity and unanimity of views on the issue of the restoration of peace in the metropolis.

The corps commander also called on Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and discussed the law and order situation in the province.  Both the CM and the corps commander also discussed the hate speeches delivered in the city the previous day.

The corps commander appreciated the chief minister’s prompt action to tackle the ensuing situation in the city.
