KP sees electoral battle on Senate seat today
ISLAMABAD: An interesting by-election battle is due today (Thursday) for the Senate seat vacated by Sania Nishtar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Giving way to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s candidate, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate Rahila Bibi has already withdrawn her candidature.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced the Jirga Hall of the Assembly as polling station for the by-election.
A total of nine candidates are in the fray. Six women from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) are in the field as independent candidates. Likewise, Shazia Bibi from Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) is also in the fray.
Similarly, Sameera Shams, Saima Khalid, Mashal Azam, Momina Khalid and Mehtab Zafar are contesting as independent candidates.
According to the Election Commission, the elections will be held through secret ballot. A ban has been imposed on carrying mobile phones inside the polling station.
