Prince Harry continues to follow in Princess Diana’s footsteps
The Duke of Sussex is currently on a trip to Angola
Prince Harry flew into Angola on July 15 to participate in a landmine walk, same as his mother, Princess Diana did years ago.
On the second day of his solo trip, the Duke of Sussex interacted with village kids during a safety class, in collaboration with the Halo Trust.
Years ago, the late Princess of Wales also partnered with the same organisation to raise awareness regarding the issue of safety against landmines in the region.
“Prince Harry made a solo visit to Angola this week, and recreated his late mother Princess Diana’s famous photo from when she visited minefields in 1997,” Halo’s official Instagram page captioned the footage of Harry walking through a minefield.
The description further revealed, “The Duke of Sussex was in the country to highlight the work of The Halo Trust, a charity that works to remove landmines and other explosives from battle zones.”
While during the activity which he undertook with the children, the 42-year-old royal helped teach necessary phrases for when a minefield is spotted.
One of these phrases was, “Stop, go back and tell your elders”, spoken in the country’s national language, Portuguese.
The Duke also addressed his mission in Angola, “Children should never have to live in fear of playing outside or walking to school. Here in Angola, over three decades later, the remnants of war still threaten lives every day.”
“The Angolan government’s continued commitment is a powerful testament to Halo’s success in saving lives and reducing humanitarian risk. We thank President Lourenço for his leadership and partnership, as well as continued donor support as we work together towards completing the mission of a landmine-free country,” his statement continued.
Meanwhile, Prince Harry’s work with the British landmine clearance charity echoes Princess Diana’s partnership with them just months before her untimely death in August, 1997.
