Packed like sardines
I wish to draw attention to the persistent inconvenience faced by thousands of university students due to the severe overcrowding of university buses. Students from remote areas are forced to wait in long lines every morning to board already overcrowded buses, often left standing and risking their health just to reach campus on time. Surveys indicate that over 60 per cent of university-going students rely on these buses, yet no effective mechanism exists to ensure the number of buses corresponds to the increasing number of students. Female students, in particular, face harassment and discomfort in these congested conditions, making many parents hesitant to send their daughters. This overcrowding affects attendance, along with the physical and mental health of students.
I request the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and university administrations to take immediate action. Increasing the number of buses, ensuring regular maintenance and introducing a seat reservation system are essential steps towards safer transport. Students deserve fair and efficient transportation that supports their education.
