ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Tehran on Sunday on an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and addressing regional cooperation, particularly concerning pilgrims and border management.

Upon his arrival at Imam Khomeini International Airport, Naqvi was warmly received by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni.

Senior officials from Iran’s Ministry of Interior, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Iran Muhammad Mudassir Tipu, Consul Aftab Butt, and other diplomatic personnel were also present at the airport to welcome the Pakistani delegation.

During a meeting with his Iranian counterpart, Naqvi discussed matters of mutual interest and enhancement of Pak-Iran bilateral relations.

Expressing his gratitude for the warm reception, Naqvi emphasized the significance Pakistan places on its relationship with its “brotherly neighbour,” Iran.

“Iran is a brotherly country and Pakistan gives it special importance,” Naqvi said, expressing optimism that the upcoming Pakistan-Iran-Iraq trilateral conference would provide solutions to the challenges faced by pilgrims traveling across the region.

Eskandar Momeni echoed similar sentiments, stating that Naqvi’s visit would further solidify the strong relations between the two countries.

Naqvi also conveyed Pakistan’s good wishes to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and newly elected President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Naqvi’s schedule in Tehran includes participation in a high-level trilateral conference on Monday (today), focusing on issues related to pilgrims and border management. The conference, initiated at Pakistan’s request, will also be attended by the interior ministers of Iran and Iraq.

On the sidelines of the conference, Naqvi is expected to hold a bilateral meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
