This refers to the letter ‘Austerity for the ordinary' (June 28, 2025) by SRH Hashmi. The writer has taken exception to the hefty hike of salaries of high ranking officers. Even though the salaries of high ranking officers of Pakistan are quite high across South Asia, perhaps some window dressing for Pakistan is not a bad idea. Maybe these hikes counter the negative perception of increasing poverty and economic decline.
