‘Pakistan can emerge as regional digital hub with strategic reforms’
LAHORE:Convener of the Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Regional Committee on Food Shahid Imran has said that Pakistan holds vast potential to become a regional digital hub, supported by one of the world’s youngest populations and rapidly expanding internet penetration.
Talking to a delegation of traders led by Abdur Rehman, Shahid Imran noted that the digital economy, spanning e-commerce, fintech, freelancing, and IT exports, is opening up new avenues for job creation, economic opportunity, and inclusive growth.
He stressed that the time to act is now, and with targeted strategies, visionary leadership, and cross-sector collaboration, Pakistan can transform this potential into lasting economic development. ‘The challenge is clear, but so is the opportunity,’ he said. ‘If Pakistan commits to this path and executes effectively, a prosperous digital future is well within reach.’
He underscored that achieving this vision will require more than optimism; it demands a steadfast commitment, timely execution, and strong governance. Shahid Imran called for urgent investment in digital infrastructure, enhanced connectivity in underserved areas, and a focus on digital literacy through education and skill development.
He further noted that public-private partnerships can drive innovation, while regulatory reforms are essential to foster an enabling environment for startups and attract foreign investment.Highlighting key priorities, he emphasised the need to strengthen cybersecurity frameworks, ensure data protection, and develop a resilient digital payment ecosystem to build trust and support growth. ‘Most importantly, policy consistency and institutional capacity are critical to drive implementation and avoid delays,’ he added.
