Sindh govt accused of ignoring opposition’s constituencies for development
During the second day of discussion on the newly presented Sindh government budget for the financial year 2025-26 in the provincial assembly on Tuesday, treasury legislators praised the administration’s performance, while opposition lawmakers highlighted the hardships of the masses due to the “indifference” of the rulers.
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MPAs claimed that the provincial government had unveiled a balanced budget to extend the maximum relief to people despite the prevailing economic hardships.
Opposition legislators said the provincial government had ignored the cause of developing the areas that are included in the electoral constituencies held by the PA’s opposition members. PPP lawmaker Yousuf Baloch praised the chief minister and his team for their hard work to finalise the new provincial budget. He said the budget contains various pro-people measures despite a shortage of funds and restrictions imposed by the International Monetary Fund.
PPP MPA Hina Dastagir claimed that her party had won every election in the province because of its firm resolve to serve people in the best possible manner. The ruling party’s Urooba Rabbani appreciated the government’s aim to complete the Shahrah-e-Bhutto Expressway in Karachi this year.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) legislator Faheem Patni said he had informed the residents of his electoral constituency in the city that the PPP’s provincial government would not supply potable water to them, adding that no authority is available to resolve various civic issues being faced by his constituency’s people.
MQM-P lawmaker Nasir Qureshi urged the provincial government to increase the treatment capacity of the intensive care unit of the Civil Hospital in Hyderabad. MQM-P MPA Naseer Ahmed urged the provincial government to take action against land encroachers active in his constituency in the suburban areas of Karachi.
MQM-P legislator Moeed Anwar complained that the residents of the city have to face several problems despite the provincial capital generating a massive sum for the national revenue pool.
PPP lawmaker Sarfaraz Shah praised the provincial government’s hard work in the health sector, and demanded that an extension unit of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases be established in Naushahro Feroze.
