Restrain Israel
The Middle East once again finds itself at the precipice of a crisis. The Israeli strikes targeting Iranian military and civilian infrastructure, conducted without provocation or imminent threat, raise serious concerns about the erosion of international norms, legal frameworks and respect for sovereign boundaries. These developments are especially troubling in the context of ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving issues surrounding Iran’s nuclear programme. The use of force, in the absence of international consensus or UN mandates, not only undermines these efforts but also sets a dangerous precedent that could embolden future unilateral actions by other states.
International law exists to prevent exactly this kind of unchecked aggression. Violations threaten the integrity of the global order and endanger the credibility of the institutions meant to preserve peace and justice. Silence or inaction in the face of such violations would amount to complicity. At this critical juncture, the global community must reaffirm its commitment to diplomacy, humanitarian principles and multilateralism. Governments should speak out against unlawful aggression, support dialogue over conflict and provide aid to civilians who bear the brunt of these confrontations.

Last week, Israel launched deadly airstrikes against key military and civilian infrastructure and top officials in Iran. Iran has termed the Israeli aggression a declaration of war and has demanded the UN Security Council act accordingly. It has also initiated legitimate retaliatory attacks, launching hundreds of missiles towards Israel. US President Donald Trump has urged Tehran to make a deal or face more death and destruction. This is clear hypocrisy on the part of the US.
Instead of reining in Israel for its use of brute force against innocent Palestinians and peaceful neighbouring nations, America is using the language of threats and intimidation against Iran. It appears to be paving the way for Israel to be the hegemon in the region. Iran has repeatedly made it clear that its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes and Israel has no right to interfere in its internal affairs. The UN must come forward to deescalate the situation and prevent further bloodshed
