Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar on Monday claimed that the remarks he made during the inauguration of the Model Police Station Thatta a day earlier have been twisted.
Holding a media talk at the provincial assembly, Lanjar said speculations and rumours are now becoming a tradition, but they are completely wrong and against our values.
He said his discussions with the Sindh police chief continue. “We’re engaged in efforts to align the Sindh police with the present era’s requirements. These series of effective policy-making are ongoing, and undoubtedly, providing government policy to police, bureaucracy and establishment proves to be an important tool going forward.”
He also said the establishment and stability of law and order is the most important responsibility of the IG.Replying to a query, the minister said he never even thought of hurting his officers’ feelings. Narcotics rackets have also come to light in the Armaghan case, he added.
He said the Sindh police are doing a good job against criminals in the Kutcha areas. Funds have been allocated in the budget for procuring weapons to further strengthen these measures, he added.
He also said media is the mirror of the government, and the true spokesperson of people. “We are determined to sabotage criminal activities in any city, including Karachi.” Lanjar said no criminal would be allowed to disrupt law and order. “The Sindh police fully possess the ability and courage to deal with such criminals.”
Later, he held a meeting at his office, where he reviewed the goals and objectives of the Karachi Range Task Force against drug mafias and central dealers. The meeting also reviewed the performances of the task force teams formed at range levels on June 4.
The minister ordered intensifying the crackdown on drugs at provincial level. He said regular targets should be set for taking vigorous action against crystal, ice, heroin and other drugs. He said he would personally check the overall performance of the task force against organised crime, drug mafias and their nexus at provincial level on a monthly basis.
“It’s necessary to conduct a thorough and systematic operation against major drug dealers and mafias. Drugs are a curse that not only cause crime in society but also destroy our young generation.”
He also said police should prove themselves in the war on drugs, and ensure a peaceful and crime-free society with their overall performance. If anti-drugs actions are not carried out in any locality, the relevant officer will be first warned, then suspended, he added.
IG Ghulam Nabi Memon said the primary responsibility against drugs and other crimes lies with the area officer, and it is necessary that the task force proves its performance. “I want police to move forward steadily in this war, and make actions against drugs successful with their action plan.”
The West Zone police chief, who heads the task force, said the team has started its work, and a coordinated and fruitful action against major dealers can soon be observed.
