The federal government has passed a law making child marriage illegal in the Islamabad area, setting the minimum marriage age at 18 years for both boys and girls. Human rights activists welcome this law, but some religious groups have expressed opposition.
This new law is a great step and, as a human rights activist, I welcome it. Although implementation efforts are necessary, this law will help hold perpetrators accountable.
