PESHAWAR: The Kurram administration on Sunday extended by 10 days the deadline set for surrendering heavy weapons in the Kurram. As per a notification issued by the deputy commissioner of Kurram, the general public and warring parties were directed to surrender the heavy weapons by June 10.
In case of recovery of weapons after the deadline, the weapons will be confiscated by the government and action will be taken under the Arms Act. The public was advised to voluntarily comply with the orders.
It is worth mentioning here that Jirgas, convened with two parties in Kurram, had set the May 31 deadline, which has now been extended to June 10.The implementation of the historic Kohat Peace Agreement is in progress to establish lasting peace in the tribal Kurram district. Under the agreement, almost all the bunkers have been demolished. In the next phase, the collection of heavy weapons is underway.
