Case of traffic constable killing registered under ATA

Following the targeted killing of a traffic police constable on Mai Kolachi Road, police registered a case against the unidentified assailant under the Anti-Terrorism Act on Wednesday. The funeral of the martyred policeman was held at the Central Police Office with full police honours.

The incident had occurred within the jurisdiction of the Boat Basin police station, where an unidentified man opened fire on 25-year-old Zain Ali Raza while he was on duty. The attacker fled the scene after the murder.

FIR No. 401/25 was filed at the Boat Basin police station under sections of murder and the anti-terrorism law on the complaint of Inspector Tariq Javed, section officer of the Sultanabad traffic section.

According to the complainant, he was informed by Chowki Incharge Deen Muhammad that Constable Raza had been shot. Upon reaching the scene near the Mai Kolachi railway crossing, the inspector met a railway employee named Qasim Zubair.

Zubair told the inspector that after regulating traffic, the constable was talking on the phone and came to sit nearby, but a pedestrian suddenly emerged from the direction of the Tapu side and opened fire with a firearm at point-blank range, wounding the constable and fleeing

towards Tapu.

The constable succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital. A large number of senior police officers, including Karachi police chief Addl IG Javed Alam Odho, DIG Irfan Baloch, DIG Fida Hussain Mastoi and the traffic police chief, attended the funeral of the martyred constable.

A special police contingent presented a guard of honour, and a floral wreath was laid to pay him tribute. Odho offered his condolences to the bereaved family, and paid rich tributes to the constable’s services.
