MIRANSHAH: The sit-in that had continued for eight days in Mir Ali, North Waziristan, ended on Tuesday after successful negotiations between the local administration and protest organizers.

The sit-in was held in response to a tragic incident on May 19 in the village of Hormuz, where an alleged bombing on a house claimed the lives of four children of the same family and injured five others, including a woman.

The protest was organized by the Utmanzai tribal jirga, the All Political Alliance, the victims’

families, and local youth, demanding justice and accountability for the attack.According to Mufti Baitullah, the representative of the protesters, the government accepted all their key demands.

Among the top concerns was a call for a transparent investigation into the bombing incident. The protesters also demanded that drone strikes or mortar fire near densely populated areas be avoided in the future, the release of Utmanzai militia member Malik Akbar Khan, and compensation for the victims’ family in accordance with tribal customs and traditions.

District Police Officer (DPO) Waqar Ahmad confirmed that the authorities had agreed to the legitimate and legal demands of the protestors. He also assured the local community of the government’s commitment to ensuring long-term peace in the region.Following the successful negotiations, blocked roads were reopened for traffic, and the bodies of the deceased were sent for burial.
