LAHORE:Commissioner Zaid bin Maqsood Monday reviewed preparations for Eid-ul-Azha, focusing on cattle markets, sanitation, traffic management, and public safety across Lahore, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, and Kasur districts.

During a divisional meeting, the commissioner directed Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of the four districts to ensure essential facilities at cattle markets, including smooth traffic flow, organized parking, sanitation, livestock health services, medical camps, and robust security measures. The DCs briefed him on their respective preparations, reporting that 30 official cattle markets will be established across the division: 6 in Lahore, 8 in Sheikhupura, 6 in Nankana Sahib, and 10 in Kasur. The Lahore Division Cattle Market Management Company will oversee key markets, including Shahpur Kanjran in Lahore and one in Kasur.

To maintain order, the commissioner enforced Section 144 to prohibit illegal sale points, burning of trotters in public spaces, and dumping of offal in canals. District Intelligence Committees will handle NOCs for animal hide collection.

Sanitation efforts will be led by the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC), which will implement division-wide cleanliness operations. The commissioner emphasized replicating Lahore’s high cleaning standards across all districts, with a zero-waste operation planned for the day before Eid as part of a special sanitation plan. In Lahore, 5,046 mosques and prayer sites have been identified for Eid prayers, with cleaning and logistical arrangements underway. The commissioner stressed that no lapses in cleanliness will be tolerated during the three days of Eid.

All Assistant Commissioners are tasked with overseeing sanitation operations, and a robust complaint redressal system will be established at each cattle market. Additionally, all incoming livestock must be thoroughly sprayed and inspected. The Lahore Parking Company (LePark) will assist with traffic and parking management to ensure organized operations at the cattle markets.
