Good restaurants – the ones that do not try to cheat you – ask whether you are paying by cash or card. Others don’t ask and go ahead and charge the 16 per cent GST applicable to cash payments, even though paying by card would only incur a 5 per cent GST. Some even claim that their card machines are not working.
The FBR should make it mandatory for large food outlets to accept digital or card payments. Businesses and food outlets should not get preferential treatment when it comes to taxation.
