Sindh police, Interpol to work together for information exchange
The Sindh police, Interpol and the global advisory company Adam Smith International (ASI) will work together to ensure timely and effective exchange of information, said provincial police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon on Thursday.
IG Memon chaired a meeting at the Central Police Office to discuss the exchange of information on criminals between Pakistan and the United Kingdom through Interpol. An ASI representative told the meeting that the ongoing UK-Pakistan Serious Crime and Law Enforcement Programme to make the exchange of information on criminals through Interpol effective is very useful and a contemporary need.
He also covered the importance of exchanging information on citizens involved in various crimes, especially sexual crimes, and convicted in the UK, and the monitoring system in collaboration with both countries.
He said that this system not only monitors criminals in the UK, especially those involved in sexual crimes, but also requests these countries and the relevant provincial governments and law enforcement agencies (LEAs) to regularly monitor such people travelling to their home countries and cities through Interpol.
He also said Interpol desks have been established in all provinces, and federal LEAs of Pakistan and focal persons have also been appointed for all of them. Information on criminals is exchanged through these Interpol desks, and due to the length of the exchange of information on criminals, delays are often encountered, he added.
He stressed that to ensure timely information exchange, the factors causing delays should not only be identified but also resolved and completely digitalised so that the provision of information within the stipulated period can be made possible.
IG Memon appointed the crime & investigations DIG as the Sindh police focal person for the information exchange. He said Interpol information regarding convicted criminals, especially sexual criminals, in the UK travelling to their home cities would be provided to the relevant police stations and intelligence departments, which would monitor such criminals and send regular reports.
