Punjab govt to expand ties with UK: Maryam

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Tuesday met British High Commissioner Jane Marriott here.
A luncheon was also hosted in honour of outgoing Political Advisor to British High Commission Zoe Ware on the occasion. The chief minister appreciated the positive role of the United Kingdom over the recent Pakistan-India strained relations. Matters pertaining to mutual interest, bilateral cooperation, education, investment, environmental protection and further promotion of partnership in the field of governance were discussed. Maryam offered to further enhance mutual cooperation in the fields of education, trade, investment, climate protection and governance.
The CM said: “The Punjab government holds in high esteem Jane Marriott’s diplomatic services as British high commissioner. Jane Marriott’s global diplomatic experience elevated Pakistan-UK relations to a new height. The Punjab government is determined to further expand its partnership with the UK so as to explore new avenues of opportunities for enhancing bilateral cooperation. A large number of 17 lakh British-Pakistanis belong to Punjab that speaks volumes for a long-lasting mutual relationship between Pakistan and the UK.” Meanwhile, Maryam Nawaz presided over the 3rd session of a commissioners and deputy commissioners marathon meeting lasting for 4 hours.
The meeting was informed about the ongoing anti-encroachment operation and beautification plan in 17 districts. She comprehensively reviewed the ongoing development projects of various districts. She approved beautification projects in 17 districts and directed the district administrations to take steps to provide funds for the beautification and improvement projects. She was given a briefing about the annual development program of the districts.
The chief minister announced giving honorarium to the deputy commissioners of Hafizabad, Rawalpindi and Narowal. She directed establishing charging stations for electric buses and disclosed that 1,100 electric buses will be provided to all major cities across the province.
Meanwhile, Maryam Nawaz has congratulated General Asim Munir on his promotion to Field Marshal. She expressed her best wishes for him. She said Field Marshal General Asim Munir rendered valuable services for the country and the nation. She prayed that may Pakistan Army touch the exalted heights of professionalism under the competent leadership of Asim Munir.
