Security personnel deployed at check-post retaliated, heavy exchange of fire continued for some time

QUETTA: Two armed militants were killed in a heavy exchange of fire in Turbat, the district headquarters of Kech district, police said on Saturday.

Officials said that a group of armed men riding motorcycles made an attempt to attack a check-post of the Frontier Corps in Turbat in the wee hours. They opened fire at the post.

However, security personnel deployed at the check-post retaliated. The heavy exchange of fire continued for some time. “ The security forces chased the armed militants and killed them in the Sangani Sar area after surrounding them, “ senior superintendent of police, Kech, said. The bodies were shifted to district hospital, Turbat. However, the identities of slain men have not been ascertained yet.

In another incident in Naseerabad, 40 kilometres from Turbat, women and children were injured when a grenade was thrown at a house. A senior police officer Zahoor Ahmed said that unidentified motorcyclists threw a grenade at a house in Naseerabad, resulting in injuries to Meeral Qasim, Ayesha Shabbir, Fatima Shabbir and Shahzad Shabbir who were shifted to hospital.

Police officials said that a search operation was underway in the area to trace out the accused involved in attacking the house.
