KARACHI: The country’s oil sector activated emergency preparedness measures during the recent Pakistan-India conflict, ensuring sufficient supplies of JP8 -- the fuel used in jet aircraft.
In a letter addressed to the director-general oil at the Petroleum Division and the chairperson of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra), the Oil Companies Advisory Council (OCAC) said that, in light of the security situation and its potential impact on the national oil supply chain and infrastructure, the oil industry implemented a series of proactive steps to guarantee emergency readiness and uninterrupted support to the nation during this critical period.
Amid concerns over the continuous availability of petroleum products and the monitoring of JP8 supplies, the sector closely tracked sales trends of Motor Spirit (MS) and maintained active coordination with stakeholders to manage supplies in the event of sustained demand, the letter noted.
The OCAC said that teams worked diligently, ensuring seamless coordination with all relevant authorities, including the Petroleum Division, Ogra, and the broader industry. This involved timely data reporting and liaison with port authorities regarding vessel statuses, keeping them informed of contingency plans and preparedness levels.
To further bolster emergency readiness, the oil body said that representatives at terminals across the country were advised to conduct preparedness drills and coordination meetings. These exercises aimed to strengthen the sector’s ability to manage potential disruptions to critical energy infrastructure and to ensure swift, effective responses under emergency scenarios.
