CCP engages business leaders on competition compliance
KARACHI: The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) held an awareness session with the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) to brief business leaders on antitrust rules and the commission’s enforcement priorities.
The event, hosted at FPCCI Islamabad, featured presentations by senior CCP officials, including Director General Advocacy and OIEA Ahmed Qadir and Senior Director and Head of Cartel and Trade Abuse Department Salman Zafar. Officials outlined the key provisions of the Competition Act, highlighting the need for fair play to foster investment and consumer welfare.
Qadir, delivering the keynote, underscored the commission’s role in maintaining open markets and warned that anti-competitive behaviour undermines economic progress. Zafar detailed the CCP’s enforcement stance, with a focus on cartel busting, abuse of dominance, and merger controls.
Business leaders sought clarity on compliance, raising sector-specific questions spanning agriculture, automobiles, edible oils, plastics, and furniture. CCP officials assured industry of continued engagement and support.
FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh commended CCP’s advocacy efforts, saying transparent and competitive markets are critical to Pakistan’s economic growth. He also called on the government to streamline business regulations.
The CCP and FPCCI agreed to deepen collaboration through future training and consultation sessions aimed at bolstering compliance across industries.
