ISLAMABAD: Former interior minister and head of Awami Muslim League (AML) Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has approached the Supreme Court for an early hearing of his acquittal appeal related to a May 9 case.

He filed a CMA on Friday in the apex court stating that the appeal has been scheduled before a bench three times, but each time, government lawyers have requested a postponement for arguments.

Filed through his counsel Abdur Razaak, contended that timely justice is his fundamental right, adding that he has been dragged into a false case for two years, and the prosecution has failed to present any evidence against him.

Sheikh Rashid requested the apex court that the acquittal appeal for hearing in the upcoming judicial week.
