KARACHI: Nestle Pakistan has expanded its Clean Gilgit-Baltistan Project to Askole -- Zero Point, a vital mountaineering hub near the K2 base camp, aiming to manage 40,000 kgs of annual plastic waste generated in the area, said a press release on Friday.

In partnership with Central Karakoram National Park (CKNP) and Gilgit Baltistan Waste Management Company (GBWMC), Nestle donated a compressing and baling machine that will help process and recycle plastic and paper waste. The waste will be compressed into bales and transported downstream for recycling.

Raja Nasir, GB’s minister for planning, lauded the initiative, noting its importance for the fragile glacial ecosystem of Baltoro and Biafo.Previously, Nestle also installed over 100 waste bins, 225 recycled plastic benches, and distributed 15,000 reusable bags across key tourist sites.
