GHA announces blocking major roads today
LAHORE:The Grand Health Alliance (GHA) Punjab has announced blocking all major roads in City today (Friday) against government's ‘apathy’ in not listening to the grievances of affected employees due to ongoing privatisation of public health facilities in the province.
Addressing the media at sit-in on Thursday, GHA Chairman Dr Salman Haseeb said that the young doctors will block The Mall, Jail Road, Canal Road and Ferozepur Road from 9am till 11:30am on Friday (today). 'The government has forced protesting health professionals to intensify their protest as it did not heed their demands despite their peaceful protest for the last three weeks,' he said, adding that they would also boycott more services in hospitals as well.
Meanwhile, the health professionals continued their protest demonstration and sit-in in front of Punjab Assembly on 18th consecutive day Thursday against the privatisation of the health facilities in the province. The young doctors and other medical staff also observed a strike in OPDs in government hospitals on the 5th day on Thursday. The patients faced severe difficulties due to strike in outdoor wards in the teaching hospitals. The SHC&MED, on the other hand, issued show cause notice to Dr Shoaib Niazi, YDA President , Punjab, for not joining his duty. The department also terminated his PG training.
