WASHINGTON: The biggest priority facing the global economy is to resolve trade tensions, International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said on Tuesday.

Georgieva said the IMF was telling countries to get their own houses in order, but was also looking at the way it does business, including conducting a review of how it designs loan programs, and determines their length and conditions.

She said the global lender is also looking at countries that have had repeated programmes - namely Argentina, Pakistan and Egypt - to ensure loan programs were designed the right way.

It will also focus on structural reforms that are more pro-growth and put an emphasis on the private sector.
