Sindh Energy Minister Syed Nisar Hussain Shah has said that the interconnection project between K-Electric and the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) will be crucial in delivering affordable electricity to Karachi’s consumers.

He made these remarks while chairing a review meeting on Monday to assess the project’s progress. The session was attended by K-Electric Chief Executive Officer Monis Alvi, NEPRA Member Technical Rafiq Sheikh, NTDC Managing Director Muhammad Waseem, and other senior officials. During the meeting, K-Electric and NEPRA representatives briefed the minister on the challenges currently affecting the project's implementation.

Shah assured participants that the governments of Sindh and Balochistan would extend full support to help resolve issues hindering the project. He emphasised the importance of addressing all bottlenecks in the national and public interest, noting that the interconnection would allow Karachi to receive more affordable electricity from the national grid — benefiting both residential and industrial consumers.

Scheduled to enhance capacity by November 2025, the interconnection was projected to reduce fuel costs by Rs5 per unit, resulting in estimated savings of Rs24 billion — a significant economic boost. He stated that steps would be taken to address right-of-way and land acquisition issues, reaffirming the government’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
