Late express
The Sukkur Express in Sindh remains the sole dedicated daily train service connecting Jacobabad to Karachi. Yet, despite its popularity and profitability, the service seldom arrives on time. Delays can stretch to up to 10 hours, with passengers helplessly resigned to this recurring ordeal with no explanation or accountability. The quality of the coaches has also gone down.
The time has come for Pakistan Railways to wake up to this prolonged neglect. The Sukkur Express deserves better. Outdated and aging coaches must be upgraded, toilet facilities must be upgraded, cleaned and maintained, water availability must be ensured, doors and windows must function properly and seats and berths should reflect the basic dignity and comfort expected of a public service. Above all, the train must begin reaching its destination on time.
