Health workers clash with police near CM’s House
LAHORE:A clash broke out between the Grand Health Alliance (GHA) protesters and police, when the protesters began their march towards the Chief Minister’s House on the 12th day of their protest at Chairing Cross on Friday.
Police used water cannons to disperse the crowd after strong resistance from the protesters. During the confrontation, a woman protester reportedly fainted due to the water pressure. Early in the day, police began removing protest camps from The Mall in response to court directives condemning the ongoing blockade. However, a large number of lady health workers resisted strongly and forcefully re-established their camps. Overwhelmed by their numbers, police were unable to prevent the re-setup, and the protesters resumed their sit-in.
Later, as the protesters moved towards the Punjab Assembly and began marching towards the Chief Minister’s House, heavy police contingents intervened. Despite police efforts to negotiate and disperse the crowd peacefully, the protesters remained firm in their demands, calling for improved working conditions and fulfillment of promises made by the government.
