Water scarcity is an existential threat for Pakistan. In such a situation, diverting Indus River water from existing fertile lands makes no sense. Conserving existing water resources and fair distribution is vital. That being said, the Sind government should build water storage dams, allowing only minimal water to flow into the sea.
This would help mitigate the province’s current water shortage. There should also be a freeze on offering coastal belts to land developers and a ban on subsidised golf-courses for the elite.
