80 more hospitals join State Life’s fight against diabetes spread
ISLAMABAD: Another 80 hospitals have joined hands with the State Life Insurance Corporation of Pakistan (SLICP) to step up its nationwide fight against the alarming spread of diabetes in the country.
Earlier, in mid-February, the SLICP joined hands with 370 hospitals in the four provinces to set up free diabetes check-ups and awareness camps. The number of hospitals partnering with the State Life for the daylong diabetes prevention drive, by setting up health examination camps in the four provinces for the second time, increased to 450.
The first drive held on February 15 examined 72,277 people free of charge on a nationwide basis. The campaign detected 4,371 (6.05 per cent) new cases of diabetes, while an overwhelming majority of the beneficiaries of the SLICP’s health protection drive, 48,518 (67.13 per cent) were found to be non-diabetic. Those who benefited from the free health check-up camps also received free consultation on the prevention of diabetes.
“At State Life, we are committed to building a healthier Pakistan by prioritising preventive care and early detection. This nationwide diabetes awareness and screening initiative reflects our mission to work towards the best advantage of our communities by actively protecting lives and promoting well-being. Through our growing network of partner hospitals, we aim to reach those who need it most, especially underserved communities with limited access to healthcare,” said Shahid Iqbal Baloch, Executive Director at SLICP.
