SLAMABAD: The Ministry of Energy (Power Division) told the National Assembly on Friday that during the first six months of this financial year, there was a decrease of Rs9 billion in circular debt.
“The circular debt at the end of June 2024 was Rs2,393 billion and it reduced to Rs2,384 billion by the end of December last year.”
To a question of Rai Hassan Nawaz Khan, the Power Division in a written reply stated that with the continuous efforts of the government, there had been substantial decrease in circular debt.
In its report with regard to free units of electricity, the Power Division told the National Assembly that due to pending litigation, free units were still being provided to employees of corporate entities attached to the Power Division.
With the effective policy implementation, the current applicable national average electricity tariff has been reduced from Rs48.70/unit in June 2024 to Rs44.06/unit in January 2025 depicting a decrease of Rs4.64/unit (10 per cent reduction) in recent months, it stated.
