When women rise, we all rise
Let’s advocate for future where women can thrive—not just survive—because when women rise, we all rise
Sadaffe Abid, a Harvard Kennedy School graduate, is the founder of CIRCLE Women Association, a leading non-profit organization, focused on women’s economic empowerment through digital and financial inclusion. Previously, as COO and CEO of Kashf Foundation, she scaled operations to serve 300,000 women and disbursed over $200 million in micro-loans. Sadaffe serves on the boards of Pakistan Microfinance Network and Hugo Bank and is a former Chair of the Inclusive Development Committee at the National Bank of Pakistan. Her work has earned global recognition, including the Mount Holyoke Alumni Achievement Award, and she was featured in Half the Sky by Nicholas Kristof.
For too long, women have been conditioned to equate strength with silent endurance—to push through, carry the weight of expectations, and suppress their struggles. Society has long told them that resilience means never faltering, never pausing, and never asking for help. But let’s be clear: true strength is not found in quiet suffering but in the courage to speak up, the wisdom to seek support, and the power to prioritise well-being.
At CIRCLE, I have witnessed firsthand the incredible resilience of women—leaders, professionals, caregivers, and change makers—who navigate mental health challenges and burnout while continuing to show up for their families, careers, and communities. These stories are not just about hardship; they are about perseverance, courage, and the unwavering determination to rise above adversity. They highlight the importance of seeking support—whether through therapy, mentorship, professional networks, or simply taking a moment to step back and reset.
Women in business and the workforce face unique pressures—balancing professional ambitions with personal responsibilities, overcoming bias, and constantly proving their worth in competitive environments. To sustain themselves, many rely on practical coping strategies. Some find strength in structured routines that create stability amid uncertainty. Others turn to mentorship and peer support, recognising the power of shared experiences and guidance. Workplace well-being initiatives, such as mental health days, flexible work arrangements, and open discussions about stress management, have proven essential in fostering healthier work environments.
Setting boundaries is one of the most crucial yet challenging lessons. Learning to say no to unrealistic demands, advocating for oneself, and making time for rest are necessary skills—not just for personal well-being but for long-term success. Self-care is not a luxury; it is a necessity. When women prioritise their health, they not only improve their own lives but also create a ripple effect, fostering a culture where well-being is valued and encouraged.
Every time a woman speaks her truth, she reclaims her power. Every time we foster open conversations about mental health, we challenge the stigma that has silenced women for too long. Mental health is not a privilege—it is a fundamental right, and no woman should have to navigate it alone.
To every woman striving to balance it all—we see you. We hear you. We stand beside you. Your voice matters, your struggles are real, and your well-being is important. Together, let’s advocate for a future where women can thrive—not just survive—because when women rise, we all rise.
