Acting vice chancellors appointed at DUHS, SBBUVAS

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has appointed Prof Dr Jahan Ara as acting vice chancellor of the Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), and Prof Zahid Iqbal Rajput as acting VC of the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (SBBUVAS) Sakrand.

The universities & boards department had sent three names for the post of acting VC of the DUHS on the basis of seniority: Dr Nazli Hossain, Dow Medical College Principal Dr Saba Sohail, and Pro VC Prof Dr Jahan Ara.

However, the CM approved the name of Prof Dr Jahan Ara, who came third in seniority. She will take charge of the post of VC from Dr Saeed Quraishy, whose second four-year tenure will end at the end of this month.

Moreover, SBBUVAS VC Dr Farooq Hassan’s four-year tenure has completed, and the CM has approved the appointment of Prof Zahid Iqbal Rajput as acting VC.

It is said that three names were sent for the post of acting VC: Dr Ahmed Sultan Jatoi, Dr Zahid Iqbal Rajput and Dr Farooq Hassan. However, here too the senior-most professor was ignored, and approval was given to appoint Dr Rajput.

It is pertinent to mention here that recently, only the senior-most professors were appointed as acting VCs at the University of Sindh, the Sindh Agriculture University Tando Jam, and the Government College University Hyderabad.
