‘Thalassemia prevention programme being expanded’
LAHORE : Provincial Health Ministers Khawaja Salman Rafique and Khawaja Imran Nazir visited Sundas Foundation Shadman. Senior journalist Sohail Warraich, Khalid Abbas Dar, Abdullah Malik and President Yasin Khan were also present on the occasion. Khawaja Salman Rafique and Khawaja Imran Nazir distributed Eid gifts and sweets to children suffering from thalassemia. Provincial ministers visited the children and also inquired about their treatment.
Provincial Minister for Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Khawaja Salman Rafique, while speaking to the media, said that Sundas Foundation is a reputable institution. Thousands of thalassemia children are being provided with the best medical facilities under its umbrella. This institution has been serving for the last 22 years. Thalassemia Prevention Programme in Punjab was started under the leadership of Shehbaz Sharif. Now under the leadership of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz, this programme is now being expanded further. So far, four lacs people have been counseled. Insha Allah, the thalassemia bill will be passed by the Punjab Assembly soon. Khawaja Salman Rafique said that the situation is gradually improving due to the visits of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to government hospitals.
Khawaja Salman Rafique, while answering questions, said that a committee has been formed under the leadership of Ishaq Dar and Mukhtar Barth on the instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. On the recommendations of the committee, there has been a clear reduction in the fees of private medical colleges. The credit for this excellent initiative goes to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz. We respect doctors, but everyone will have to work hard to improve the conditions of government hospitals. Provincial Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir said in his statement to the media that Sundas Foundation has become a name of trust. I am confident that Munnu Bhai will have high ranks in heaven for planting a sapling. Under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the Thalassemia patients treatment programme will soon be started in BHUs and RHCs. It is always a pleasure to see his foundation and his services. I thank his foundation and such welfare organisations. Khawaja Imran Nazir said that in the coming times, the hospital and healthcare systems will be improved. We will do whatever we can to treat children. If even a single child is treated because of me, I will be very happy. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has always provided resources to the health sector beyond expectations. CM Maryam Nawaz is a caring mother, striving to help people. Khawaja Imran said that news spread about me in the media is baseless. I will take legal action against those who spread baseless news under the PECA Act.
