President remits sentences of prisoners
Juvenile prisoners, who had completed one-third of their sentence would also be entitled to remission
ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has approved a remission of 180 days in sentences of prisoners on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr and Pakistan Day. He approved the remission exercising his powers under Article 45 of the Constitution.
As per the announcement of the President House on Friday, the remission of sentences would apply to male prisoners over 65 years of age and female prisoners over 60 years of age, who had completed one-third of the sentence.
The juvenile prisoners, who had completed one-third of their sentence would also be entitled to remission.
The remission of the sentence does not apply to prisoners sentenced for murder, espionage, anti-state activities, rape, theft, robbery, kidnapping, terrorism, financial crimes and damage to the national exchequer. The remission of sentence will not be applicable to the persons convicted under the Foreign Persons Act, 1946 and the Narcotics Control (Amendment) Act, 2022.
