Following the online circulation of a video clip showing police officials assaulting a fruit vendor at Qalandria Chowk, the District Central police chief has dismissed a cop from service and suspended three others, with departmental action ordered against them.
A police spokesperson said SSP Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqui took notice of the incident that occurred in the Shahrah-e-Noorjahan area, where officials in a mobile were seen harassing and assaulting a street vendor.
All officials present in the vehicle have been suspended, and an inquiry has been ordered against them. The suspended officers have been identified as police constables Zafar, Zulfiqar and Naseem, and driver Abdullah.
The video shows the cops taking fruits without paying, and when the vendor resisted, they misbehaved with him and assaulted him. PC Zafar, who was seen misusing his authority, has been dismissed from service. SSP Siddiqui has issued a strict warning, saying that no tolerance would be shown for misconduct with the public. He emphasised that such behaviour damages the police department’s reputation.
